The Nature Conservancy
The Nature Conservancy, (TNC), has been a longtime collaborator with Norpac Fisheries Export in various capacities from taking an active role in our Tuna Fishery Improvement Projects in the Western Pacific, to implementation cohort deploying traceability technology in the Snapper Fishery in Indonesia. It is through our work with TNC that they have been able to classify 2 new species of snapper in 2015, specifically identify over 120 known species, as well as championing implementation of Electronic Observer Monitoring Systems on our tuna vessels in the Western Pacific. Monterey Bay Aquarium
The Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program evaluates the environmental impacts of seafood production and makes recommendations to consumers and businesses based on these impacts. As a formal Seafood Watch Industry Collaborator, Norpac has committed to communicating the sourcing details necessary to determine the Seafood Watch rating of all the seafood that we sell. Additionally, Norpac utilizes Seafood Watch purchasing guidelines to promote sustainability to our customers. We do this through procuring and marketing products that are favorably rated by their program because they are fished or farmed responsibly. Furthermore, Norpac Founder Tom Kraft has played an active role on their Multi-Stakeholder Group for four years. Marine Stewardship Council
Norpac’s role in seafood sustainability has always been in Fishery Improvements, helping bring unsustainable fisheries to MSC approval transition fisheries towards sustainability and MSC certification. It is our pleasure to say that many of the MSC certified products offered under our brand have been the products of our hard work transitioning fisheries to sustainability. FisheryProgress & FishChoice
As a partner and friend, we have been working with FisheryProgress and FishChoice to help promote sustainability and monitor and track our Fishery Improvement Projects. Blueyou
Norpac is a strategic marketing partner of Blueyou and its local company MELIOMAR INC. in the Philippines. Blueyou has been developing a fishery improvement program (FIP) specifically designed for artisanal small-scale fisheries in developing countries, the ARTESMAR® program. The project in the Philippines is working with more than 3,000 fishermen which catch Yellowfin Tuna with single-hook handline in a near-shore fishery. Norpac is the strategic marketing and distribution partner for ARTESMAR® Tuna in the United States. Norpac has been instrumental in supporting Blueyou’s activities in the Philippine handline tuna fishery, as their primary customer. Blueyou is an example of the type of environmentally and socially responsible companies Norpac seeks to support and partner with, as we focus on responsible sourcing, educating and empowering fishers to harvest sustainably.
Future of Fish
As one of the original Entrepreneurs blazing a pathway for traceable, transparent supply chains, we have worked in various capacities with Future of Fish from POD member, to being a source of information in various projects they have executed.
FishWise
Our work with FishWise goes back many years, as we worked with FishWise on some of their first traceability projects. In conjunction with MRAG, FishWise conducted the first Electronically Traceable Seafood audit, on our traceability system at our processing plant in the Marshall Islands. Since then, FishWise has become a strong supporter of seafood traceability and a strong advocate for responsible seafood sourcing and monitoring. We continue to support FishWise to help define what traceability looks like in the future by attending events and seminars hosted by them.
